Polished concrete is not a coating. The slab is ground with progressively finer diamonds, hardened with a densifier, then honed and polished until it reflects light. The result is a floor with nothing on top of it to peel, chip or wear through, which is why it runs warehouses, big-box retail, breweries and showrooms all over the country. It takes forklifts and foot traffic, cleans with a mop, and stays bright for decades with basic care.
We polish new and existing slabs across the Omaha metro, at the sheen you want, from a soft matte hone to a high-gloss showroom finish. Cracks and joints are repaired first, stains are ground out where the concrete allows, and a stain guard goes on at the end so spills sit on top instead of soaking in.
You choose two things: the finish level and the exposure. Finish runs from a flat matte hone (around 100 to 200 grit, easy to keep and forgiving on an older slab) through satin (400 to 800 grit, the most common choice for shops and retail) to a high-gloss showroom floor (1,500 to 3,000 grit) that reflects the lights. Exposure is how deep we cut: a cream polish barely touches the surface and keeps the slab looking like concrete, salt-and-pepper opens the fine sand for a speckled look, and a full aggregate cut shows the stone, terrazzo-style. For a garage, basement or back-of-house floor that does not need a full polish, a grind and seal (ground flat, then a clear sealer instead of the polishing passes) gives most of the look for less.

Polished concrete is the slab itself, ground and polished, with nothing to peel. Epoxy is a coating bonded on top that adds color, flake and chemical resistance. Polished fits warehouses, retail and showrooms with heavy traffic; epoxy fits garages, shops and anywhere you want a color or a full-flake look. We do both and will tell you which fits.
Most slabs can. Soft, badly cracked or heavily patched concrete polishes unevenly, and a slab with an old coating has to be ground clean first. We test a spot and tell you what the floor will look like before you commit.
It depends on the size of the floor, how hard the concrete is, how much repair it needs and the finish level. Big open floors cost less per square foot than small cut-up spaces. Quotes are free; send a floor plan or a size and we will come look.
Dry, a polished floor is no more slippery than most commercial flooring, and the stain guard we use is chosen with that in mind. Wet, any smooth floor gets slick, which is why entrances get mats.

How deep we cut. A cream polish stays on the surface and keeps the slab looking like smooth concrete. Salt-and-pepper opens the fine sand for a speckled look. A full aggregate cut exposes the stone for a terrazzo look. Deeper cuts take more passes and cost more; the slab and the look you want decide it.
The slab is diamond-ground flat and clean, then sealed with a clear coat instead of polished through the finer grits. It gives most of the look of a polished floor for less money and is a good fit for garages, basements, shops and back-of-house floors. Where you want the mirror finish and the lowest maintenance for decades, full polishing is the answer.
Dust mop, damp mop with a neutral cleaner, and keep grit off it at the entrances. No wax, no stripping. A re-burnish every few years brings the shine back on a busy floor.
